A 51-Km Hiking Experience, Lasting For 3 Days Is Coming To RAK This November

Ras Al Khaimah is all set to host the region’s first Highlander hiking experience in November. The one-of-a-kind trek is organised by Highlander – the only certified international hiking association in the world. The three-day, 51-kilometre trek is called Highlander55 and will take place across Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest mountai

What Is Highlander?
Highlander is a trek company founded in Croatia in 2017. Popularly known for its curated hiking adventures, thrill seekers can pick from over 20 hiking experiences that take place annually in 15 destinations including Morocco, Egypt, Montenegro, Russia and Austria.

And now, the much sough after trek has found a new destination in the UAE mountains. Unlike other treks, Highlanders experiences are not a race. Rightly called “the adventure of a lifetime”, Highlander experiences are about appreciating nature, self-sufficiency and being in the moment.

So, What Will The Trek Be Like?
The Highlander UAE series will place from Thursday, November 18 to Saturday, November 20, 2021. The three-day experience is for adults with a moderate level of fitness, but participants don’t need to be hiking experts. There’s also a shorter 30-kilometre, two-day adventure for those who prefer something less tedious.

During the trek, participants can explore the gorgeous Jebel Jais trails, sleep under the stars at UAE’s highest campsite and learn more about the natural landscape and rich culture of the emirate.

What Routes Will The Hike Cover?
Participants will trek over carefully flagged routes. The trek will start at Wadi Ghalilah dam, following the Ghaf Summit trail where hikers will have to tackle a steep climb. The second day will include newly created routes designed by the Highlander team. Trekkers will make their way along the rocky mountain ridge, with the ocean on one side and cliffs on the other. And finally, on day three, the adventure will take in a date farm near Wadi Haqeel before ending at Shimal.

All hikers must carry their own equipment and participants must receive stamps at designated check points, to show they have completed the trail.

How Can You Sign Up?
Pre-registrations are now open for the event. You can sign up here. The event is open to anyone over 18 years and with a moderate level of fitness. The ticket price starts at AED 985 for early bird pricing. The cost includes entry, transportation to and from Ras Al Khaimah and the event, access to on-duty UAE rescue services if required, a hiking map, Highlander finisher badge and a certificate of completion. In addition, all participants will enjoy three meals per day, as well as campfires at night.
