Amazon’s Lens Live Turns Your Camera Into a Shopping Assistant

New feature lets shoppers point their phone at real-world items to get instant product matches and insights powered by AI tools like Rufus

Lens Live Brings Real-Time AI Shopping to the Real World

Amazon is upgrading its visual search experience with the launch of Lens Live, an AI-powered tool that lets users discover products by simply pointing their phone at real-world items.

  • This isn’t a replacement for Amazon Lens, which allows users to snap or upload photos.
  • Instead, Lens Live adds a real-time layer, providing a swipeable carousel of product matches instantly on screen.
  • It works directly from the Amazon Shopping app on iOS, now available to tens of millions of U.S. users.

With Lens Live, Amazon aims to make impulse shopping and price comparison easier, whether you’re walking through a store, spotting an outfit on the street, or browsing in your own home.

How Lens Live Works

The feature uses live camera input to identify products and display matching Amazon listings in real time.

  • Tap on any object in your camera view to get focused product results.
  • Add items to your cart with the (+) button, or tap the heart icon to save them to your wishlist.
  • Integration with Amazon’s AI assistant, Rufus, provides product summaries, ratings, and conversational prompts for further research.

This makes Lens Live not just a discovery tool, but also an informed shopping assistant.

Powered by Amazon’s AI Ecosystem

Lens Live is part of Amazon’s growing suite of AI-enhanced shopping tools, all built on Amazon SageMaker and deployed using AWS-managed OpenSearch.

In the past year alone, Amazon has rolled out:

  • Rufus, a conversational AI shopping assistant
  • AI-generated product summaries and reviews
  • Personalized size-fit recommendations for fashion
  • AI-powered shopping guides
  • Smart prompts for merchants and shoppers alike

Lens Live leverages this infrastructure to bring context-aware, real-time product discovery to the physical world — a bridge between offline curiosity and online convenience.

Designed for How People Already Shop

Amazon is tapping into a behavior that already exists:
People frequently compare prices in-store by checking items on Amazon while they shop at physical retailers.

  • Lens Live simplifies this process by allowing customers to point and tap instead of type and search.
  • It offers a quick way to check prices, read reviews, and explore alternatives — all within a few seconds.

This approach doesn’t just enhance Amazon’s app — it turns the real world into a shoppable interface, guided by visual AI.

Rollout and Future Expansion

Currently, Lens Live is:

  • Available on iOS in the U.S., covering tens of millions of shoppers.
  • Amazon has not yet confirmed if or when it will expand to Android or international markets.

As visual search becomes a core shopping behavior, Amazon is betting big on combining computer vision, natural language processing, and mobile UX to stay ahead of competitors like Google Lens and Pinterest Lens.
