Android 16 Gets Official Launch Date; One UI 8 to Debut in July with Samsung Foldables
Following Apple’s iOS 26 preview, Google has officially announced the Android 16 release date. Coinciding with a major shift in mobile OS landscapes, the Android 16 update is scheduled to begin rolling out on June 10, 2025.
Android 16 Launches First on Pixel Devices
The rollout begins with Pixel 6 and newer devices:
- Google will push the update late at night (US time).
- The June launch also brings the Pixel Feature Drop, introducing feature updates to Google’s ecosystem apps.
Expressive Design and UI Enhancements
Android 16 includes parts of Google’s Material 3 Expressive Design, already live in beta channels:
- Revamped Quick Settings and Notifications for intuitive navigation.
- New app icon styling and a blurred aesthetic praised after iOS 26’s reveal.
- However, the stable release may delay full Expressive rollout, continuing it in upcoming QPR updates.

Apple previewed iOS 26 on June 9, boasting its largest visual overhaul:

Samsung has confirmed it will launch One UI 8 next month:
- The update will be based on Android 16.
