Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3 Brings New Accessibility and Multitasking Tools

Pixel Users Get New Accessibility Tools, UI Enhancements, and Taskbar Pinning in Latest Beta Update

Google Rolls Out Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3

Google has just released Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3, introducing refinements and useful new features to the Pixel lineup. While this release is targeted at Pixel devices, it also previews changes that will later influence Android experiences on brands like Samsung, OnePlus, and others.

The update is available for a wide range of Pixel devices—including the upcoming Pixel 9 series, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet.

New Feature: Magnify Keyboard

One of the standout additions is the Magnify Keyboard—an accessibility tool designed to help users with visual impairments.

  • Allows zooming into the on-screen keyboard
  • Helps users clearly view letters, emojis, and symbols
  • Can be toggled via:
    Settings > Accessibility > Magnification

Google is expected to roll this out widely through the next Pixel Feature Drop, expanding accessibility for Android users.

Pin to Taskbar: Boosted Desktop Mode

A new multitasking feature has arrived for Android’s Desktop Mode: Pin to Taskbar.

  • Users can now pin favorite apps to a persistent taskbar for faster access
  • To pin:
    • Open the App Drawer
    • Press and hold (or right-click) an app
    • Tap “Pin to taskbar”
  • To remove: repeat the same steps and select “Unpin from taskbar”

This feature is expected to enhance productivity setups, especially for tablets and foldables using Desktop Mode.

UI Refinements and Functional Improvements

Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3 introduces several interface improvements aimed at enhancing usability and polish:

  • Security & Privacy settings have been simplified—tabbed views removed
  • Battery Health settings have returned, following feedback from earlier beta users
  • Spacing adjustments improve the look and readability inside the Settings app
  • Visibility of toggles (e.g., switches, sliders) improved across the UI
  • Pixel Launcher now supports Dynamic Color theming for shortcuts
  • The At a Glance widget has retained dynamic weather icons, offering better at-a-glance info

These subtle changes contribute to a more cohesive and visually pleasant Android experience.

Eligible Pixel Devices

The following Pixel devices are eligible for the Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3:

  • Pixel 6 / 6 Pro / 6a
  • Pixel 7 / 7 Pro / 7a
  • Pixel 8 / 8 Pro / 8a
  • Pixel 9 / 9 Pro / 9 Pro XL / 9 Pro Fold / 9a
  • Pixel Fold
  • Pixel Tablet

Other Android manufacturers, including Samsung, are expected to integrate these features or their own versions of them in future One UI or custom Android builds.
