Google Gemini to Add In-App Video Recording and Smarter Live Overlay
New features enhance AI interaction with direct video uploads and improved user interface
Native video recording and uploading
Google is rolling out exciting new features for its Gemini AI assistant, making it more interactive and useful than ever. The upcoming updates include in-app video recording and a more intuitive Gemini Live overlay, which will allow users to engage with the assistant more efficiently.
- With version 16.23.69 of the Google app, users can now upload video clips directly from their device storage for analysis by Gemini.
- Previously, video analysis was limited to YouTube links, but the new update opens up a broader range of video sources for AI-powered analysis.
To check if the feature is available on your device:
- Tap the + button in Gemini.
- Select Files or Gallery to see if video files are available for upload.
- If you don’t see video options, the update may not have reached your device yet.
Additionally, Gemini is working on in-app video recording, which will make it easier to record and share videos directly within the app, streamlining the process for users who want to get help with specific content.
Revamped Gemini Live overlay
The Gemini Live overlay is also receiving a design refresh. The new interface is cleaner and more user-friendly, with a few key changes:
- The Google wordmark is replaced with a simplified “G” logo.
- The Labs button is repositioned for better accessibility.
- The interaction model is designed to feel more fluid and intuitive.
A notable improvement is the addition of a voice waveform in the overlay, showing users when Gemini is actively listening, even if the overlay is minimized. This change provides better transparency and communication during interactions.
Additionally, AI-powered search suggestions will be introduced, with the “AI Mode” clearly marked to let users know when the assistant is actively utilizing AI for suggestions.
Making Gemini more user-friendly
These updates mark a significant step in enhancing the usability of Gemini. With the new video upload feature and a smarter Live overlay, Gemini will become an even more helpful tool, allowing users to interact seamlessly with AI and get assistance in new ways.
Google’s focus on making Gemini more interactive and accessible is set to improve how users experience AI on their devices, making it easier than ever to get the help you need.
