New tools let Facebook and Instagram users translate their own voice in reels, expanding audience reach and breaking language barriers
Meta Expands AI-Powered Voice Translation to All Creators
Meta is taking a major step toward multilingual content.
On Tuesday, Meta began rolling out AI voice translations globally for creators on Facebook and Instagram, starting with English and Spanish.
- The feature allows creators to dub their content in their own voice, enabling more authentic-sounding translations.
- It is now available in all regions where Meta AI is supported.
How It Works: Translate Your Voice with Meta AI
Creators can translate reels with just a few taps.
When uploading a reel, eligible users can select “Translate your voice with Meta AI” to activate the feature.
- Creators can choose to add a lip-sync option, which aligns the dubbed voice with their lip movements for a more natural effect.
- The AI-generated voice matches the original tone and inflection, making the translated version sound true to the creator.
Who Can Use It and Where
The feature is rolling out globally — but with some limits.
At launch, the AI translation supports English ↔ Spanish. More languages will be added in the future.
- Available to Facebook creators with 1,000+ followers and all public Instagram accounts where Meta AI is live.
- Facebook creators can also upload up to 20 manually dubbed audio tracks via Meta Business Suite, supporting translations before or after publishing.
Customization and Controls for Creators
Preview and control your translated content.
Creators can review AI translations and lip-sync results before publishing their reel. They can toggle translations or syncing on/off at any time.
- Reels using this feature will show a notice to viewers that they were translated by Meta AI.
- Viewers who prefer not to see translated content can adjust language settings in their preferences.
Insights and Metrics for Better Audience Understanding
New data helps creators see how translations perform.
Meta has added a new “views by language” metric to the Insights panel, allowing creators to track how translated content reaches non-native audiences.
- This tool will become increasingly useful as more languages are supported.
- Meta encourages creators to face the camera, speak clearly, and minimize background noise for the best translation quality.
A Strategic Move in Meta’s AI Expansion
The launch aligns with broader AI ambitions.
This global rollout comes as Meta is restructuring its AI teams, focusing on four key areas: research, superintelligence, products, and infrastructure.
- The company is aiming to position AI not only as a backend tool but also as a user-facing feature that drives engagement, growth, and global reach.
- Instagram head Adam Mosseri called it a step toward bridging cultural and linguistic divides for creators.
