Meta has unveiled several additions for Edits, its video-editing app for creators, including an AI assistant and a desktop version aimed at expanding the platform’s capabilities.
The announcements were made during an invite-only creator event in Los Angeles.
The company also released a set of new features on Wednesday, including a Beta section for testing upcoming tools and expanded audience analytics.
AI assistant in development
Meta said the upcoming AI assistant will help creators understand content performance and generate ideas for future videos.
Using data from Instagram, the assistant will analyze:
- Views.
- Video retention.
- Audience engagement.
It will also:
- Suggest content ideas based on previous performance.
- Recommend trending audio.
- Explain what types of videos are working and why.
The feature is currently being tested with attendees of the creator event.
Desktop version coming soon
Meta is also developing a desktop edition of Edits, which until now has been available only on mobile devices.
The company said the desktop version will provide:
- More precise editing controls.
- A larger workspace.
- Support for advanced editing workflows.
- Synchronization between desktop and mobile devices.
The addition brings Edits closer to rival CapCut, which already offers desktop editing.
New features available now
Beta tab for experimental tools
Creators now have access to a new Beta section.
The feature gives users early access to tools still under development and allows them to provide feedback to Meta.
Expanded audience insights
New analytics features include:
- Audience demographic breakdowns.
- Information on when followers are most active.
These metrics are being added to existing insights, which already show:
- Viewing duration.
- Followers gained from individual videos.
- Points where viewers stop watching.
Search inside Inspiration feed
Creators can now search topics within the Inspiration feed to find:
- Reels.
- Templates.
- Trending content ideas.
Multiple versions of videos
Users can also create different versions of the same content before publishing to test which performs best.
Competing for creators
Edits was launched last year as a direct competitor to ByteDance’s CapCut.
The additions come as Meta continues competing with TikTok and YouTube for creators.
YouTube offers an AI-powered Inspiration tab in YouTube Studio, while TikTok provides creators with an AI assistant for discovering trends and brainstorming ideas.
Meta recently introduced a similar AI assistant for creators on Facebook.
User engagement data
Meta did not disclose the number of Edits users.
However, the company said:
- Content created with Edits records a 10% higher save rate.
- Reshare rates are 2% higher compared with content created elsewhere.
- More than half of users watching Instagram Reels see content produced with Edits every day.
Availability
Edits is available as a free download on:
- iOS.
- Android.
The AI assistant remains in testing, while the desktop version is scheduled to launch at a later date.
TL;DR
Meta plans to add an AI assistant and desktop version to its Edits app as it seeks to compete with CapCut. New analytics tools, topic search and a Beta section for experimental features are rolling out immediately.
