Microsoft Expands Copilot to All Windows 11 PCs—Galaxy Books Included

New Copilot tools, once limited to NPU-equipped PCs like the Galaxy Book 5, are now rolling out to all Windows 11-powered Galaxy Books.

Big AI Upgrades Coming to More Galaxy Books

In a major shift, Microsoft is expanding the reach of its Windows 11 AI features to all compatible PCs, including older Galaxy Book laptops that don’t have built-in NPUs (Neural Processing Units).

  • Until now, Copilot features were limited to Copilot+ PCs like the Galaxy Book 5 series and Galaxy Book 4 Edge, which use powerful NPUs for AI tasks.
  • Now, Microsoft says most of these features will work on any Windows 11 PC, including earlier Galaxy Book models.

This move dramatically increases access to AI-powered tools, even for users on older hardware.

What’s New: Key Copilot Features Coming to All Devices

The AI upgrade includes a variety of new tools and enhancements designed to simplify everyday tasks and boost productivity. Here’s what’s rolling out:

  • 🔗 Copilot Shortcut on Taskbar
Easily access Microsoft Copilot from the taskbar, replacing the default search bar. It’s opt-in, so you can switch back if preferred.
  • 🗣️ “Hey Copilot” Voice Activation
Like a smart speaker, your PC will listen for the “Hey Copilot” hotword, making voice interactions seamless.
  • 👁️ Copilot Vision
Copilot can see and interpret your screen in real time—offering help with tasks, guiding you through apps, or answering questions contextually. Similar to Google’s Gemini Live, but for Windows.
  • ⚙️ Copilot Actions
This allows AI agents to perform tasks automatically. Examples:
    • Rotating and organizing images.
    • Deleting duplicate files.
    • Browsing and making purchases online.
    • Performing actions inside third-party apps (coming soon).
  • 📅 Connectors for Google & Outlook
Copilot can connect to your Google and Outlook accounts, letting it access emails, calendar entries, contacts, and files. It can create new documents or automate tasks using this information.

No NPU? No Problem (Mostly)

Although these features are coming to all Windows 11 PCs, including earlier Galaxy Book models, performance will vary.

  • No NPU required to use most features.
  • However, tasks may run slower compared to Copilot+ PCs that offer 40+ TOPS (trillion operations per second) in AI performance.

Samsung’s Galaxy Book 5 and Book 4 Edge series still offer the best performance for these features, but functionality won’t be restricted based on hardware alone.

Rollout Timeline and Availability

  • The update will roll out gradually to all Windows 11 PCs over the next few months.
  • Copilot Vision and other tools will be available in all markets where Microsoft Copilot is already supported.
  • Users should ensure their systems are running the latest Windows 11 build to access these features as they become available.

Microsoft is bringing Windows 11’s advanced AI features—like Copilot Vision, voice activation, and automated actions—to all Galaxy Book laptops, not just those with dedicated NPUs. While these tools will run faster on newer hardware, most Windows 11 users can now access them.
