Aimed at boosting spontaneous interaction, the new iOS feature streamlines messaging with a single tap.
One-Tap Chats Now Coming to WhatsApp Status
WhatsApp is testing a new feature that lets you quickly start a conversation with anyone who views your status update.
Introduced in iOS beta version 25.27.10.70 via the TestFlight program, the feature—called ‘Status Chat Shortcut’—adds a dedicated chat button beside each viewer in your status list.
This eliminates the need to exit the status tab or search through your chats, making interactions more fluid and immediate.
How It Works: A Button Right Where You Need It
Once the update is active:
- You’ll see a chat icon next to each contact’s name under the Viewed By list in your status update.
- Tap the icon, and you’re instantly taken to that person’s chat window.
- No need to scroll through messages or open the contact list.
This simple shortcut is designed for speed and convenience, especially in moments when you want to follow up instantly with someone who just viewed your story.
Enhancing Spontaneity and User Experience
The feature does more than save time—it encourages real-time, spontaneous communication.
- Whether it’s a friend reacting to your update or a colleague checking a work-related post, you can instantly respond or engage.
- This helps keep conversations fresh and contextual, reducing the disconnect that can happen when replies are delayed.
It’s part of WhatsApp’s broader goal to unify user experience across platforms, with similar features planned for Android in the near future.
Gradual Rollout in Progress
As of now, the Status Chat Shortcut is available only to select iOS beta testers, but a wider rollout is expected in the coming weeks.
If you’re part of the beta program and have the latest version, you can start using the feature immediately.
For others, it’ll arrive soon via regular updates as WhatsApp continues refining the experience.
