Samsung Adds Smart Formula Suggestions to Calculator with One UI 8.5

Samsung Adds Visual Depth and a Time-Saving Formula Suggestion Tool to the Calculator App in One UI 8.5

Subtle Yet Effective Design Upgrades Arrive

Samsung is rolling out refined visual improvements to its Calculator app with the One UI 8.5 update, making it more modern and user-friendly.

  • The app now features a depth effect with drop shadows on primary buttons like numbers and operators.
  • This visual enhancement gives buttons a more 3D-like appearance, adding polish without clutter.

Dynamic Glowing Effect Enhances Interactions

In addition to shadows, buttons now glow when tapped, creating a soft aura around them.

  • The glow dynamically changes color based on the selected calculator mode and whether Dark Mode or Light Mode is enabled.
  • These enhancements are present across Standard, Scientific, and Unit Converter modes, offering a cohesive visual experience.

Introducing Nudges: Smart Clipboard Suggestions

A standout new feature in the One UI 8.5 Calculator app is “Nudges”, aimed at saving users time.

  • When you copy numbers or mathematical formulas to your clipboard, the app will automatically suggest them inside the calculator interface.
  • Tapping a suggestion instantly inputs the value, allowing for quicker calculations without the need to paste manually.

This feature brings a touch of smart productivity, making the app more context-aware and useful in day-to-day scenarios.

One Feature Still Missing: Currency Converter

Despite the improvements, Samsung still hasn’t added a currency converter—a feature users have been requesting since 2017.

  • Its absence remains the biggest limitation in an otherwise evolving calculator app.
  • While the Unit Converter handles several measurement categories, the lack of real-time currency support is still noticeable in a globalized digital economy.

Samsung’s One UI 8.5 update brings a modernized Calculator app with button shadows, glowing interactions, and Nudges—a smart feature that suggests clipboard-copied numbers and formulas for quicker calculations. However, the long-requested currency converter remains missing.
