Samsung Confirms One UI 7 Black Line Bug — Here’s a Quick Fix

The display glitch appears after using Smart View; here’s how to avoid it until Samsung rolls out a permanent fix.

One UI 7 Update Causes Black Line Bug on Flip Devices

Samsung’s One UI 7 update brought a host of new features, but it also introduced an unexpected issue for some users.

  • A black line appears on the main screen of some Galaxy phones—especially the Galaxy Z Flip series—after using the Smart View feature.
  • The glitch shows up after mirroring the screen to a TV or external display and folding the phone, particularly when Smart View is set to “Full screen on connected device.”

Samsung Responds: It’s a Known Bug, Fix Coming

Samsung has officially acknowledged the issue, calling it a software-related glitch specific to foldable phones like the Z Flip 6.

  • The issue is not hardware-related, and the company has confirmed that a software update is in development to resolve it.
  • The bug is triggered when the user folds the phone to end Smart View, causing a temporary black line to appear on the display.

Temporary Workaround: Change Smart View Settings

Until a permanent fix is released, Samsung has shared a simple workaround to avoid triggering the bug:

  1. Open Quick Settings and tap Smart View
  2. Connect to your display device
  3. Tap the floating Smart View icon
  4. Go to More Options > Settings
  5. Change the screen ratio to “Full screen on phone

Additionally, don’t fold the phone to disconnect Smart View. Instead, use the pop-up disconnect button to end the mirroring session.

How to Install the Fix When It’s Released

Samsung will include the permanent fix in an upcoming One UI 7 software update.
Once available:

  • Go to Settings > Software Update
  • Tap Download and Install
  • Follow the prompts to update your device

If the black line persists after the update, users are encouraged to contact Samsung Customer Support for assistance.

Final Thoughts

While it’s a minor but annoying issue, Samsung’s quick acknowledgment and the provided workaround should help Galaxy Z Flip users manage the glitch.
A fix is on the way, but until then, adjusting Smart View settings is the best way to keep your screen clear and functional.
