Samsung Discontinues Samsung Pay Downloads on Older Galaxy Watches
Tizen-based wearables lose support as Samsung transitions fully to Wear OS
Key Update for Galaxy Watch Users
Starting May 31, 2025, Samsung Pay will no longer be available for download on a number of older Galaxy Watches. This change, officially confirmed by Samsung, impacts devices that run on the companyâs Tizen operating system.
- If Samsung Pay is already installed, you can continue using it without disruption.
- However, if the app isnât installed by the cutoff date, you wonât be able to download or add it later.
To ensure seamless use, Samsung advises users to update to version 2.7.51 of the app, which remains compatible on affected devices.

Why Samsung Is Ending Support for Tizen Watches
Samsung is gradually phasing out its proprietary Tizen OS in favor of Googleâs Wear OS on all new Galaxy Watches.
- Wear OS offers broader app support and more modern features.
- The shift aims to unify Samsungâs wearable ecosystem with Android for better integration and future updates.
- As a result, continued support for Samsung Pay on older Tizen devices is no longer viable.
List of Affected Galaxy Watch Models
Samsung Pay downloads will be disabled on the following Tizen-based smartwatches:
- Gear S2
- Gear S3
- Gear Sport
- Galaxy Watch (2018)
- Galaxy Watch Active
- Galaxy Watch Active2
- Galaxy Watch3
Caution for Current Tizen Watch Users
Even if Samsung Pay is installed on your device, be aware of two critical limitations post-May 31:
- If you reset your watch, Samsung Pay cannot be reinstalled.
- If you pair your watch with a new smartphone, you will also lose access to re-download the app.
For uninterrupted Samsung Pay usage, avoid resetting your watch or switching phones after the cutoff date.
