Samsung Pushes Major Software Update to Galaxy S25 Series Ahead of One UI 8
Over 1GB update hints at deeper changes beyond performance tuning
Significant firmware update rolls out in Europe
Samsung has started rolling out a major firmware update to its Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra models. The update, weighing over 1GB, is currently available to users in Europe and targets devices still running One UI 7.
- Despite its size, the changelog simply notes “improved usability of device operations”, suggesting performance and system optimizations.
- Given its large file size, users and analysts speculate that the update includes under-the-hood enhancements in preparation for future features or a smooth transition to One UI 8.
Update specifics by model
Users can verify the update through the following One UI build versions:
- Galaxy S25 – S921BXXU4BYE7
- Galaxy S25 Plus – S926BXXU4BYE7
- Galaxy S25 Ultra – S928BXXU4BYE7
To install the update:
- Navigate to Settings > Software update > Download and install.
- Ensure the device is charged to at least 50% to prevent any disruptions during installation.
Still running May 2025 security patch
Interestingly, this update does not bring a new security patch, retaining the May 2025 version.
- This implies the update isn’t primarily for security, but rather for system refinement or hidden preparations for a more substantial feature drop in the next build.
- A similar update was released for the Galaxy S24 series last month, suggesting a coordinated rollout pattern.
One UI 8 Beta continues in limited regions
Meanwhile, Samsung is running the One UI 8 Beta Program for Galaxy S25 users in select markets including Germany, South Korea, the UK, and the U.S.
- Beta testers have reported several new features such as:
- A redesigned Reminder app UI
- Enhanced calculator functionality
- Improved Samsung Health features
- Other UI and system-level refinements
Samsung is expected to expand the One UI 8 Beta to additional countries such as India, Poland, and Canada in the coming weeks, ahead of its official launch later this year.
