Samsung Refines Gesture Controls in One UI 8 with Good Lock Tweak

The latest version disables the system back gesture by default, reflecting Samsung’s shift toward refined gesture controls in One UI 8

One Hand Operation+ Gets a Smart Tweak for One UI 8

Samsung has just rolled out One Hand Operation+ version 8.2.17.0, bringing an important change for Galaxy users running One UI 8. Available through the Galaxy Store and Good Lock app, the update modifies how gesture navigation behaves on the latest OS.

  • The update disables the “System back gesture” by default.
  • This applies only to devices running One UI 8 on Android 16.
  • The goal is to better align One Hand Operation+ with One UI’s new gesture system, ensuring a more seamless experience.

What Does This Change Mean for Users?

Samsung has made Android’s predictive back gesture a key feature in One UI 8. This new system-wide gesture experience is designed to be more intuitive, offering previews before fully navigating back. To prevent conflicts or misfires, Samsung has decided to turn off the system back gesture by default in One Hand Operation+.

  • This prevents overlap between One Hand Operation+ gestures and Android’s native navigation system.
  • You can still enable or customize the back gesture if needed, but the default is now set to OFF after installing the update.
  • The update also includes general bug fixes and stability improvements, making the app more reliable.

Devices Affected by the Update

At the time of writing, the Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy Z Fold 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7 are already running One UI 8 and will experience this change directly.

  • The One UI 8 update began rolling out on July 25, starting with Samsung’s newest foldables.
  • More devices will gain One UI 8 support in phased rollouts over the coming months.

If you’re using one of these latest models, it’s a good time to test out the updated gestures with One Hand Operation+.

A Gesture Tweak in Line with Bigger UI Changes

Samsung is gradually refining its gesture-based UI. In One UI 8, the protective back gesture is still considered experimental and can be found in the Labs section of system settings.

The updated One Hand Operation+ is designed to complement this change, not override it. By switching the back gesture to OFF by default, Samsung ensures the two systems work in harmony without conflicting inputs.

Pair It with Other One UI 8 Good Lock Enhancements

Alongside this update, Samsung also released Home Up v17, another Good Lock plugin updated for One UI 8. It brings:

  • Extended animation tuning
  • New blur and icon control settings

Together with One Hand Operation+, these updates show how Samsung is tailoring Good Lock to fully leverage One UI 8’s capabilities.
