Smart Auto-Lock for Wear OS May Prevent Unauthorized Phone Access

Your Galaxy Watch May Soon Lock Your Phone If You Leave It Behind

Forgetting your phone could soon become less stressful. Google is reportedly developing a smart lock feature for Wear OS smartwatches, including the Samsung Galaxy Watch, that will automatically lock your phone when it’s out of Bluetooth range.

Smart Auto-Lock Feature in Development

The upcoming feature aims to address a major security gap. While watches like the Pixel Watch can currently unlock your phone when nearby, they don’t help when the phone is left behind. This new addition will do the opposite—lock your phone when it disconnects from your smartwatch.

  • The feature is in testing, as seen in Pixel Watch app version 3.5.0.758720535.
  • A message within the app states: “Phone will lock when it disconnects from your watch, like when it’s far away.”

Enhanced Security for Wear OS Users

This feature ensures that if you accidentally leave your phone, your smartwatch will detect the disconnection and trigger an automatic phone lock. This prevents unauthorized access until the phone is reconnected or manually unlocked.

  • Although spotted in the Pixel Watch app, it is expected to extend to all Wear OS devices.

Coming Soon to Samsung Galaxy Watch?

If rolled out officially, this functionality may be included in the One UI 8 Watch update for Samsung’s Galaxy Watch line. This would strengthen Samsung’s commitment to device security and seamless ecosystem integration.

  • At least one user has seen the toggle appear, but it’s not functional yet, indicating the feature is still in its early testing stage.

This innovation could offer peace of mind for users who rely on their devices daily and want added protection when their phone is accidentally left behind.
