Turn Up the Volume and the Screen—Spotify Videos Hit Samsung TVs

Samsung Smart TV users can now watch full music videos on Spotify, complete with intuitive playback controls and the ability to toggle between video and audio instantly.

Spotify Video Streaming Hits the Big Screen

Spotify has officially brought music videos to Samsung TVs, marking a major leap in how users engage with their favorite tracks. While Spotify began rolling out music videos in beta in March 2024, the feature has now expanded globally and is available on Samsung’s smart TV lineup, including the S90C OLED TV.

With this integration, Spotify users can switch from audio to video directly within the app interface while a song is playing—creating a more immersive living room experience.

One-Click Switching Between Audio and Video

The new experience is designed to be seamless:

  • When a song is playing, the ‘Switch to music video’ option appears on the Now Playing screen.
  • Selecting it begins the official music video playback.
  • The button then transforms into ‘Switch to audio’, allowing users to return to traditional audio streaming anytime.

This feature ensures that users can effortlessly switch formats based on preference or bandwidth concerns—though it’s worth noting that video quality settings are not available yet.

Playback and Navigation Made Easy

The video mode on Spotify for Samsung TVs includes:

  • Playback controls: Play/pause, skip, shuffle, repeat.
  • Progress bar: Lets you seek within the video.
  • Related music videos section: Shows similar or recommended videos for easy discovery.

While the video plays, users also have access to:

  • Queue & Jam: See upcoming tracks.
  • Dark Mode: Ends video playback and switches to an ambient visual setting.
  • Lyrics: Only accessible in audio mode, suggesting a trade-off between visual content and lyric display.

No Video Quality Controls—Yet

Currently, the app does not allow video quality adjustments, which may impact users with bandwidth limitations or those who want to optimize streaming performance. However, the seamless interface and instant switching compensate by providing a simple and user-friendly experience.

Expanding Global Access to Spotify Videos

Spotify began testing this feature in 11 countries, later expanding to 85+ regions, including Canada and the U.S. With today’s rollout to Samsung TVs, the feature reaches more living rooms—positioning Spotify as a stronger YouTube Music competitor in the visual entertainment space.

For Samsung TV owners, especially those with newer models like the S90C OLED, this update adds a dynamic new layer to music consumption.
