Translate Messages Instantly Within WhatsApp
WhatsApp is rolling out a new translation feature that lets users translate messages directly in the app—no need to copy, paste, or switch apps.
- Users can long-press any message and tap “Translate” to instantly convert it into their preferred language.
- Translations are supported across private chats, group messages, and Channel updates.
- The feature is available on both Android and iOS starting this week.
This update brings WhatsApp in line with Apple’s Messages, which introduced live translation earlier this year.

Language Support: iPhone Beats Android for Now
The translation feature is currently rolling out with limited language support, especially on Android.
- Android: English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic.
- iPhone: Broader support including 20+ languages such as French, German, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Turkish, Vietnamese, and more.
While the Android rollout is narrower, Meta is expected to expand language support over time, especially given WhatsApp’s global footprint.
No Web or Desktop Support—Yet
At launch, the translation feature is exclusive to mobile devices.
- There’s no word yet on when it will come to WhatsApp Web, Windows, or macOS apps.
- For now, users on desktop will need to rely on external tools or browser-based translations to interpret foreign messages.
However, Meta has a history of quick feature parity across platforms, so support may follow soon.
