Samsung’s upcoming AI feature lets you combine elements from multiple photos and edit images using natural language prompts, directly in the Gallery app.
A New Era of Generative Image Editing on Galaxy Devices
Samsung continues to evolve its Galaxy AI toolkit with One UI 8.5, and its latest feature is aimed at making photo editing more intuitive and powerful. A new leaked build of One UI 8.5, tested on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, reveals an AI-driven image mixing and text-based editing tool inside the stock Gallery app.
- The feature lets users mix and match elements from different images.
- Users can describe the edit they want in plain text, and Galaxy AI will generate the desired result.
This expands Samsung’s early lead in on-device generative AI, which first debuted with One UI 6.1.
How It Works: Text Prompts + Image Merging
Once you tap the Galaxy AI button in the Gallery app, you can use the Photo Assist section to:
- Add, remove, or change elements within the photo using a text prompt.
- Import elements from other images stored on your device.
- Combine both actions to create a blended image scenario—like merging a photo of your cat with a yarn ball from another image and asking Galaxy AI to make it look like the cat is playing with it.
This brings AI editing closer to the conceptual tools seen in professional apps, but with zero technical skill required.
Expanding on Existing AI Features
While some text-based editing tools already exist under the Drawing Assist section on select high-end Galaxy phones, this new implementation in One UI 8.5 brings:
- Simplified access directly through the Gallery app
- Broader functionality, including full-scene image merging
- A more user-friendly interface tailored for casual and power users alike
This reflects Samsung’s vision of turning AI into an everyday tool, not just a novelty feature.
When Will It Be Available?
Although the feature is clearly described in the Tips app on the leaked One UI 8.5 firmware for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, it’s not active yet.
- It’s absent from the Galaxy S25 beta builds of One UI 8.5.
- Samsung may enable it in future beta updates or debut it with the Galaxy S26 series in early 2026.
This aligns with Samsung’s habit of tying new AI features to major hardware launches.
Why This Matters
This feature could reshape mobile image editing by making complex edits as easy as typing a sentence. It also continues Samsung’s strategy of embedding generative AI deeply within native apps, rather than offloading it to third-party tools.
If executed well, it will:
- Save users time
- Lower the skill barrier for creative photo edits
- Further cement Samsung’s place at the forefront of AI-powered smartphone experiences
Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy AI feature in One UI 8.5 will let users blend elements from multiple photos using text prompts—like asking AI to merge a cat photo with a yarn ball image. It’s not live yet but is expected to launch with the Galaxy S26 series in early 2026.
