Google has made Gemini’s personalized AI image generation feature available for free to all eligible users in the United States.
The company announced Monday that the feature, powered by Nano Banana, is no longer limited to Gemini Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers.
The rollout expands access to a tool that creates images based on a user’s interests and preferences.
How it works
The feature is part of Gemini’s Personal Intelligence system.
When enabled, Gemini can use information from connected Google services to personalize image generation, including:
- Gmail
- Google Photos
- YouTube
- Google Search
Instead of describing personal interests in detail, users can submit broader prompts. For example, someone can ask Gemini to “Create an illustration of me and my favorite things,” and the chatbot uses its understanding of that person’s preferences to generate the image.
Gemini can also use photos stored in Google Photos, removing the need to upload images manually.
Opt-in feature
Personal Intelligence is optional.
Users choose which Google apps Gemini can access. Once enabled, the feature becomes the default for prompts, but it can be turned off through a new toggle in the Tools menu.
Wider rollout
Google first announced Nano Banana-powered image generation for Personal Intelligence in April.
The broader Personal Intelligence feature became widely available to U.S. users in March. More recently, Google expanded it to users in India and Japan.
