BMW has introduced the 2021 S 1000 R in India with a starting price tag of Rs. 17.90 lakhs (ex-showroom), today.
The roadster is available in 3 variants, namely – Standard, Pro and Pro M Sport and is a completely built-up unit (CBU) offering from the German brand.
Visually, the second-generation S 1000 R is as sharp as motorcycles get and is very masculine thanks to the sharp new bodywork, but also has an air of lightness to it.
Derived from the BMW S 1000 RR and featuring a ‘Flex Frame’, the motorcycle gets a new LED headlamp, 6.5-inch TFT instrument cluster and is also equipped with smartphone connectivity.
BMW claims to have made ergonomic refinements such as equipping the bike with a reversible handlebar clamp (for increased reach) and offering options for seat height adjustment.
Colour choices that buyers get with the 2021 BMW S 1000 R include Racing Red, Hockenheim Silver Metallic and Light White (only with Pro M Sport).
A water-cooled, 999cc, 4-cylinder engine capable of putting out a peak power output of 165 HP at 11,000 RPM and 114 Nm of maximum torque at 9250 RPM powers the bike.
The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox that features an anti-hopping clutch and the motorcycle can smash the 0-100 km/hr run in 3.2 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 250 km/hr.
There are 4 riding modes – Rain, Road, Dynamic and Dynamic Pro – offered on the 2021 BMW S 1000 R as standard and its newly engineered suspension, says BMW, enables the bike to have more rear mechanical grip in comparison to its predecessor.
In terms of safety, the motorcycle gets traction control, wheelie-control, ABS and ABS Pro, among others and also, there is a range of optional equipment available with the super-naked bike.
