At last, after a long wait, Mahindra has unveiled its all-new Scorpio and the SUV’s revealed name is ‘Scorpio-N’. The launch of the new Scorpio-N will take place on 27th June. Mahindra will also continue to sell the existing Scorpio along with the N. However, the existing 1 will become the Scorpio Classic.
Mahindra says the all-new Scorpio-N will redefine the D-segment and has been engineered grounds-up to meet the aspirations of the young and tech-savvy customers looking for a full-size authentic SUV.
According to the UV maker, the Scorpio is tough, sophisticated, and a head turner with an imposing design and commanding driving position. It will be manufactured at Mahindra’s state-of-the-art facility in Chakan.
Called as the ‘BigDaddyOfSUVs’, the new SUV boasts of premium interiors and comes loaded with a host of advanced modern features and latest technology.
It will be powered by petrol and diesel engines with a choice of manual and automatic transmissions. The 4×4 option will also be available in keeping with its adventure capabilities. It is built on a new body-on-frame platform.
In its latest teaser, the UV maker had put up a statement saying, “The new Mahindra SUV makes even the crash dummy feel safe,” with 94 percent of the respondents ticking ‘Yes’. This means Mahindra is ready for Global NCAP to take the SUV for a crash test.
As far as India is concerned, the UV maker’s Ssangyong Tivoli inspired XUV 300 has not just bagged a 5-star Global NCAP rating but also got more points than its other 5 star mates like the Tata Nexon and Tata Altroz. So, it must be seen how the upcoming Scorpio-N fares.
The SUV will reportedly come powered by a 2-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Diesel engines could be offered in two forms with the base variant getting a less powerful version.
The petrol engine might be the mStallion 150 TGDi unit that puts out 150 HP at 5000 RPM and 300 Nm between 1250-3000 RPM. The diesel engine might be the tried and tested mHawk 130 that exerts 130 HP at 3750 RPM and 300 Nm between 1600-2800 RPM.
