Bajaj Developing New Entry-Level 125cc Motorcycle for FY26 Launch
Bajaj Auto is preparing to introduce a new 125cc motorcycle in FY2026, aimed at the entry-level commuter segment, according to Executive Director Rakesh Sharma during a recent investor call.
A Fifth 125cc Model in the Making
Bajaj already has a strong 125cc portfolio, which includes:
- Pulsar 125
- Pulsar NS125
- Pulsar N125
- Freedom 125 CNG
Despite this extensive lineup, the company sees further potential in the burgeoning 125cc segment, which now nearly matches the 100cc category, accounting for about 28% of total motorcycle sales in India.
Branding Strategy Yet to Be Decided
The brand for this new motorcycle hasn’t been finalized, with Sharma noting that Bajaj is still analyzing the segment’s sub-categories.
- One possibility is the revival of the Discover brand, or a return of the CT125X, which was recently discontinued.
- “Whether there is space for one more brand beside Pulsar will be based on careful analysis,” Sharma stated.
Focus on Value and Utility
The new bike is expected to focus on value-conscious buyers, possibly undercutting Bajaj’s current 125cc offerings.
- Bajaj’s Freedom 125 CNG has shown that innovation within this category can appeal to cost-sensitive, long-distance commuters, a theme that may be echoed in the new model.
With growing demand and evolving customer preferences in the 125cc segment, Bajaj’s next launch could target a distinct niche within the class, offering a fresh alternative in a crowded yet high-volume space.
