As it eyes IPO, CARS24’s second acquisition in a year shifts focus from transactions to lifelong vehicle ownership services
CARS24 Grabs CarInfo in Post-Sale Push
Used car marketplace CARS24 has acquired CarInfo, a vehicle management platform, in a bid to extend its grip on users long after the car keys change hands.
CarInfo, founded by Sahil Ajmani in 2019, solves a daily headache for car owners: fragmented vehicle documents. It lets users track insurance, pollution certificates, challans, and more in one app. That painkiller now joins the CARS24 toolkit.
“CarInfo isn’t an overnight success—it’s a team that played the long game,” said CEO Vikram Chopra, who confirmed the app will run independently under the CARS24 banner.
It’s Not Just About Buying Cars Anymore
Buying a car might happen once every few years. But managing one? That’s a constant chore—and that’s exactly what CARS24 is betting on.
- CarInfo has 12M+ monthly active users, showing just how sticky post-sale services can be.
- By integrating frequent touchpoints—document renewals, compliance tracking—CARS24 can stay top-of-mind even after the sale is done.
Question: What better way to build loyalty than solving annoying admin tasks every car owner faces?
The Bigger Picture: IPO in Sight
This move isn’t just strategic—it’s timed. CARS24 is laying groundwork for a public listing within 12–18 months. The company has been cleaning house:
- Restructured operations and axed non-core services like Inspare (B2B spares), FourDoor (servicing), and AutoPilot (driver hiring).
- Over 300 roles were cut, but the core platform was sharpened.
- Earlier capital raises:
- INR 345.2 Cr in Aug 2025 from parent firm Global Car Group
- INR 250 Cr earlier in the year, both for working capital and platform investment.
In FY24, the company moved 2 lakh cars, reported INR 6,917 Cr in revenue (up 25% YoY), but losses deepened to INR 498 Cr due to heavy bets on tech and CX.
Acquisition #2: A Pattern Emerges
This isn’t CARS24’s first taste of M&A in recent months.
- In April 2025, it acquired Team-BHP, a long-standing automotive community.
- With Team-BHP + CarInfo, CARS24 is now stacking its funnel:
- Top: Auto content + community
- Middle: Car buying/selling
- Bottom: Ownership lifecycle tools
Question: Is CARS24 morphing into a “super app” for car owners—without calling itself one?
The Road Ahead
Founded in 2015, CARS24 has grown beyond India into Australia, UAE, SEA, and the Middle East. It now sells not just used but new cars, along with financing, insurance, and warranties.
But the real story isn’t about adding more SKUs. It’s about owning the relationship with users—before, during, and long after the sale.
TL;DR:
CARS24 has acquired vehicle management platform CarInfo to deepen its vehicle ownership services. With 12M+ active users, CarInfo strengthens CARS24’s user engagement post-sale. The move comes amid IPO plans, cost-cutting, and a focus on core offerings.
