This is the Hyundai Custo, which will make its debut at the upcoming Auto Shanghai this month. The MPV is expected to be sold exclusively in China and will be built by Beijing Hyundai, the Korean carmaker’s local joint venture with BAIC Motor.

  • Hyundai is developing a new MPV and it has registered the name ‘Custo’ in China.
  • Images have been released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT)
  • The Custo minivan is said to be designed specifically for the Asian market which will initially be sold in China.

Dimensions
Its length is 4,950 mm with a width of 1,850 mm.

Its wheelbase is 3,055mm

Typical Features
It has been noted that its front grille is similar to the one seen on the 2022 Tucson.

It has typical minivan features of sliding doors and a tall roof.but its black fender moldings, an unconventional choice, lends it a rugged appeal.

It does possess traditional Hyundai elements such as its gear selector buttons, digital gauge cluster, 4-spoke steering wheel and a big infotainment screen.

Surprising Features
The Custo does not bear much resemblance to other Hyundai models that we are familiar with in India.

The headlights differ as they possess a more conventional and softer design.

Other surprising features include a distinct LED light bar and sharp tail lights.

Not much has been revealed about its interior features. But it can be expected to share design elements with the Hyundai Sonata such as gear selector buttons and four-spoke steering wheel.

It will be sold in 6,7 and 8-seater configurations.

Engine Options?
Different reports speculate that it could be offered in either of the 2 engine variants:

2 litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox .
The power output could be around 237bhp and 353Nm of torque.

1.6-liter turbocharged with a 170 hp power output.
The Custo will not have a diesel option.

Debut / Launch
As for India launch there is no word yet. But Hyundai has registered a trademark with the name of Hyundai Staria (possibly a compact MPV) in multiple Asian regions including India.

The Hyundai Custo is expected to make its public debut at the Shanghai Auto Show this month,
