Land Rover Defender To Get More Power, SVR Variant To Debut In 2022

The Land Rover Defender SVR is set to become the sportiest model in the SUV range. Land Rover focuses on the mad SVR variant of the Defender, making even the 525 PS V8 seem inferior.

Despite there being concerns with the latest Defender in terms of reliability, consumers across the world have been smitten by the off-roader, for they are purchasing the car by the bucket loads.

Land Rover began selling the current-generation Defender with 4- and 6-cylinder engines earlier this year, knew it had to capitalize on the current enthusiasm by fitting the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine inside its engine bay.

Now, even while the company struggles to meet worldwide demand, a new variant, the top-spec SVR, is being developed, which should move the bar relatively high once again.

Land Rover Defender SVR will be a more powerful off-roader and just as luxurious inside. Both 90 and 110 variants will be offered and will sport a more rowdy design.

Even though there will be a V8, it won’t be from Land Rover. Instead, BMW’s twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre motor is said to have been picked for the robust performance it offers.

One other factor that stands in favour of the BMW V8 is that it can pass upcoming emissions regulations. The engine is expected to be used in the top-of-the-line Range Rover as well.

The Land Rover Defender SVR will have over 600 horsepower and unique suspension tuning (for better handling on the road), thus making it the sportiest Defender ever built.

Supposed to go on sale overseas by spring 2022, the Defender 90 SVR is expected to cost $125,000 (Rs. 93 lakhs taxes extra) and the 110 SVR about $130,000 (Rs. 97 lakhs). It is unknown if Defender 130, which is under development, will get the SVR treatment.
