Maharashtra Eases HSRP Rules: No Extra Charges for Group Installations

HSRP Installation Made Easier for Housing Societies

The Maharashtra Transport Department has introduced a hassle-free method for High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) installation, bringing major relief to vehicle owners. Now, residents of the same housing society or apartment complex can opt for doorstep HSRP fitting without any extra charges.

  • This initiative aims to minimize congestion at fitting centres by offering group-based installations.
  • If more than 25 vehicle owners from the same premises book online, they qualify for the free doorstep service.

Deadline Set for Vehicles Registered Before 2019

The HSRP requirement applies to all vehicles registered before 2019, with a compliance deadline of April 30, 2025.

  • This mandate ensures uniformity and enhanced vehicle security across the state.
  • Authorities encourage early installations to avoid last-minute rush.

Fitting Charges Waived for Group Installations

Previously, vehicle owners had to visit designated centres and bear additional costs for onsite services.

  • Current fitting fees are Rs 125 for two-wheelers and Rs 250 for four-wheelers.
  • Under the new directive, these charges are completely waived if 25 or more vehicles are registered together from a single location.

HSRP Pricing Based on Vehicle Type

The cost of HSRPs differs according to the type of vehicle, though the installation fee is separate.

  • Two-wheelers are charged Rs 531,
  • Three-wheelers pay Rs 590,
  • While four-wheelers and heavy vehicles are charged Rs 879.
  • These rates are fixed, regardless of the installation location.

State Divided into Three HSRP Zones

To streamline operations, the Transport Department has split Maharashtra’s regional and sub-regional transport offices into three distinct zones.

  • Each zone has a dedicated agency responsible for HSRP distribution and fitting.
  • This division allows for better coordination and faster service delivery.

Over 18 Lakh Vehicles Already Compliant

According to officials, over 18 lakh vehicles across the state have already been fitted with HSRPs.

  • On average, nearly 10,000 vehicles register daily for installation services.
  • This growing number reflects strong public response to the simplified process.

Appeal from the Transport Commissioner

Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar has urged vehicle owners to take advantage of this initiative.

  • Timely HSRP installation will reduce crowding at fitting centres.
  • It also helps in enhancing road safety and enforcement efficiency.

This community-based installation model not only cuts costs but also brings much-needed convenience to Maharashtra’s vehicle owners.
