Mahindra Unveils The XUV300 Electric SUV; The Full Electric Plan To Be Unveiled Soon

Mahindra won the first-mover advantage in the electric vehicle industry a decade ago when they introduced the e2O, an evolution of the aging Reva. It quickly lost this edge due to its inability to expand its electric vehicle portfolio, while younger players like Tata Motors, Hyundai, and MG produced their own versions.

There are reports that the automotive giant later released the eVerito sedan, which was a flop in the Indian car market. Mahindra’s only electric vehicle is currently available on the market. Now, the domestic automaker plans to enter the EV market with a new series of electric vehicles, kicking off with the eXUV300, a battery-powered variant of the IC-powered XUV300.

At the Auto Expo, a pre-production concept version of the vehicle debuted. The small electric SUV is scheduled to debut in 2023, and it will be followed by several other Mahindra electric cars. A car enthusiast named B Vinubalan spotted it in action and released the unique spy pictures via Rushlane Spyplane.

“We had already started our plan to bring in electric automobiles to India,” Mahindra and Mahindra Automotive CEO Veejay Nakra remarked. We plan to debut the all-electric XUV300 in Q3 or Q4 of FY23. We’re working on unveiling our EV portfolio strategy in India, and we’ll let you know more about it shortly.”

Tata Motors’ Nexon EV, which has been largely unchallenged in its class, will compete directly with the XUV300 Electric. On display at the 2020 Tokyo Motor Show, the XUV300 Electric was unveiled. An electric vehicle is on display at the Expo with a powertrain capable of producing roughly 130 horsepower.

In addition, the automobile had a 40-kilowatt-hour battery. The Tata Nexon EV has a 30kWh battery pack to put this into perspective. Nonetheless, the Nexon EV may compete with the XUV300 Electric due to its long range. There is a possibility that the range of the XUV300 Electric will exceed 300 kilometers. Mahindra recently announced an investment of Rs 3000 crore in electric vehicles.
