Mahindra’s XEV 9S Surge: More Power, More Volume, More Value

With expanded capacity and EV-first innovations, Mahindra is all set to electrify the Indian SUV space with the XEV 9S and its Born Electric range.

Rising Demand Triggers Production Boost

Mahindra is witnessing strong interest in its new electric SUV lineup, particularly the XEV 9S. Currently, production for the XEV 9S and BE 6 hovers around 5,000 units per month. Responding to increasing demand, the automaker plans to raise output by another 3,000 units monthly by the end of the current financial year.

  • This will significantly lift total production volume.
  • Mahindra’s plants can already produce 1 lakh EVs annually, scalable to 2 lakh units if market appetite continues.

Key Launch Timeline

Bookings for the Mahindra XEV 9S open on January 14, with deliveries starting January 23. This tight schedule reflects Mahindra’s confidence in its supply chain and manufacturing agility.

Electric Powertrain with Efficiency at Its Core

The XEV 9S is built on Mahindra’s INGLO EV platform, showcasing modularity and innovation. Buyers can choose from three battery configurations:

  • 59 kWh, 70 kWh, and 79 kWh – all LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) based.
  • Backed by a lifetime battery warranty, these setups offer reliable longevity.
  • Real-world driving range reaches up to 500 km.
  • DC fast charging replenishes the battery from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes.

Running costs are impressively low at Rs 1.2 per km, with maintenance estimated at just 40 paise/km—making it highly fleet-friendly.

Power Meets Practicality

Performance is no afterthought. The XEV 9S’s electric motor generates 210 kW and 380 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h dash in just 7 seconds, and a top speed of 202 km/h.

It also features:

  • Adaptive suspension
  • Regenerative braking (adjustable levels)
  • One-pedal driving
  • Multiple terrain-specific drive modes

Thoughtfully Designed Interior

This is India’s first three-row electric SUV, and it emphasizes space and comfort:

  • Total interior volume: 4,076 litres
  • Boot capacity: 527 litres
  • Frunk storage: 150 litres
  • Third-row split-folding seats
  • Second-row perks include ventilated seats, Boss Mode, and sliding/reclining seats.

Packed with Advanced Safety

The XEV 9S includes Level 2+ ADAS for superior on-road safety, offering:

  • Blind spot detection
  • Lane centring assist
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Emergency steering support

This advanced suite ensures peace of mind in both urban and highway settings.

Competitive Pricing Strategy

With a price tag ranging from Rs 19.95 lakh to Rs 29.45 lakh (ex-showroom), the XEV 9S undercuts many competitors while offering premium features and long-range capabilities.
