Maserati Grecale, Italian Firm’s Second SUV, Revealed

Italian carmaker Maserati has unveiled the Grecale. The SUV will be available in 3 trims at launch, including a 530 HP turbo-petrol performance variant.

The ‘entry-level’ GT will come powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, mild-hybrid engine delivering 300 HP. The mid-spec Modena has a 330 HP version of the same powertrain, while both models come with 450 Nm of torque.

On the other hand, the top-spec Trofeo has a 3.0-litre twin turbo V6 making 530 HP and 620 Nm. On paper, Maserati Grecale Trofeo can do the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 3.8 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 285 km/hr.

Whereas the mild-hybrid variants which use a a 48 V electrical system comprising a battery, belt-starter generator and an e-booster can hit 240 km/hr tops and do the 0-100 km/hr run in 5.6 seconds (300 HP) and 5.3 seconds (330 HP). All 3 versions of the Grecale are 4-wheel drive.

Measuring (in GT form) 4846 mm long, 2163 mm wide (mirrors included), 1670 mm mm tall and a wheelbase of 2901 mm, the Grecale, says the luxury carmaker, has the best-in-class interior space and sound quality.

The car’s cabin has materials such as wood, carbon-fibre and leather and houses features like a digital clockface, digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, 8.8-inch display for additional controls, another screen for rear seat occupants and voice control, among several other features.

On the outside, the Maserati Grecale has an unoffensive design that some might consider to be bland. The car has a low-set front grille, LED lights, fluid body panels, large wheels and an expansive greenhouse.

On the handling front, the Grecale will come with the Maserati Vehicle Dynamic Control Module (VDCM) system and various drive modes – Comfort, GT, Sport, Corsa (Trofeo only) and Off-road.

Moreover, Maserati will also introduce the PrimaSerie Launch Edition, a limited edition, when the car is launched in the third quarter of this year. The pure-electric variant of the SUV, named the Grecale Folgore, will arrive in a year’s time with a 105 kWh battery pack.
