Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy 2025: Toll Waivers, Subsidies, and Infrastructure Push
Maharashtra has rolled out its Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2025 with a financial outlay of ₹1,993 crore, aiming to establish itself as a leader in clean mobility. The policy, effective till 2030, introduces a series of benefits including toll exemptions, purchase subsidies, and improved EV infrastructure.
Toll-Free Access on Major Highways
EV owners will enjoy significant toll savings under this policy:
- 100% toll waiver for electric four-wheelers and electric buses on high-traffic corridors like the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Samruddhi Mahamarg, and Atal Setu.
- 50% toll reduction on all other state and national highways, offering further relief for long-distance EV commuters.
This initiative is designed to cut operational costs and encourage highway adoption of EVs.
Purchase Subsidies Across Vehicle Categories
The new EV policy provides financial incentives tailored to different vehicle segments:
- 10% subsidy on electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, private four-wheelers, and buses operated by state and civic agencies.
• Applies to vehicles purchased till 2030, under the Clean Mobility Transition Model. - 15% subsidy on electric cargo vehicles, including three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and tractors.
• Aimed at boosting the shift to eco-friendly logistics and commercial fleets.
These incentives directly reduce the upfront cost, making EVs a more economically viable option for individuals and businesses.
Registration Fee Waiver for All EVs
The government is also offering a complete waiver of registration fees for all electric vehicles:
- This waiver applies to newly purchased EVs, further lowering the total cost of ownership.
- The measure enhances the affordability of EVs across both personal and commercial segments.
This policy element is expected to spur registration volumes and create momentum for EV sales.
Charging Stations Every 25 Kilometers
To counter range anxiety, the policy mandates a robust charging infrastructure rollout:
- Charging stations will be installed every 25 kilometers along national highways across Maharashtra.
• This will support long-distance travel and build confidence in EV performance. - Parallel efforts will promote private and public charging solutions in urban and rural areas.
This infrastructure plan is essential to ensure uninterrupted EV mobility statewide.
Clean Mobility Transition Model
The state’s Clean Mobility Transition Model integrates multiple strategies for sustainable growth:
- Continues subsidy support and infrastructure development until 2030.
- Encourages local EV manufacturing, positioning Maharashtra as a green tech hub.
- Targets the creation of a self-sustaining EV ecosystem, aligned with global climate goals.
This long-term vision could transform Maharashtra into a national leader in electric mobility innovation.
