The Klein Vision AirCar, which is getting closer to entering production, recently flew from 1 airport to another in Slovakia in 35 minutes and then hit the road.
It took only 3 minutes for the AirCar to transform into a road-going vehicle after completing its 142nd successful landing at the Bratislava airport. The journey had begun before from an airport in Nitra.
In those 180 seconds, the dual vehicle’s wings rise and then lower into place while the tail retracts, all at the push of a button.
After it turned back into a machine-driven on public roads, the Klein Vision AirCar was then piloted into downtown Bratislava.
Impressive as it may sound, the 2-seat AirCar is actually not very powerful. Its petrol engine is sourced from BMW and only makes 158 HP.
However, that is enough for the vehicle to attain a maximum cruising speed of 190 km/hr and reach altitudes of up to 2499 m (8200 ft).
Although the Klein Vision AirCar has completed over 40 hours of test flights, the firm is already working on a more advanced prototype as things stand.
That model will have a variable pitch propeller and a 296 HP engine, increasing the vehicle’s cruising speed to 300 km/hr and range to 1000 km.
