The Volkswagen ID Life concept car has been revealed at the Munich Motor Show, and it previews a future small electric car from the brand, which will be introduced by 2025.
Let’s talk design first. It is a relatively simple car, the ID Life, and it comes with a crossover-like stance (which should make it instantly attractive to the crossover-loving crowd), crisp lines, and a neat silhouette.
This concept car has a removable roof made of air chamber textile and unique lighting elements, which might well make it into production given the current rate of development in lighting technology.
Inside, both natural and recycled materials have been used. The party piece here is that the car can become a mini cinema or a gaming center (it comes with a video game console, projector, and screen!) thanks to a multifunctional interior.
Moreover, the front seats of the Volkswagen ID Life can be folded flat, as can the rear bench, meaning a bed measuring 2 meters in length can be prepared in no time within the car.
Of course, a model set to debut in 2025 will come with tonnes of features. For example, cameras and a display replace the ORVMs and the IRVM.
There is a hexagonal, open-topped steering wheel that sports a touch panel to control driving functions, while a smartphone can be integrated in the operating system as well.
Based on a smaller version of Volkswagen’s MEB architecture, the ID Life has a 57 kWh high-voltage battery with a 400 km range on a single charge.
The front-wheel-drive car has a 172 kW (231 BHP) electric motor that enables the vehicle to complete the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 6.9 seconds.
Having more affordable EVs in its portfolio is paramount importance to Volkswagen since it aims to increase the share of EVs in total vehicle sales in Europe to at least 70 percent and in China and North America to at least 50 percent by 2030.
