Why Some Range Rover Owners Are Envious of the Temu Knockoff

TikToker’s Jaecoo 7 SUV goes viral as buyers weigh comfort, cost, and reliability against Range Rover prestige.

Luxury Looks Without Luxury Prices

There’s a reason people spend tens of thousands more on luxury brands like Range Rover — craftsmanship, power, and the allure of exclusivity. But what if you could get the look and feel of a luxury SUV without the sky-high maintenance costs?

Enter the Jaecoo 7, a Chinese-built SUV marketed under Chery’s Omoda brand. For TikToker @bec.tttoktok, who recently purchased one, it’s more than just a budget option. She proudly calls it her “Temu Range Rover” — and insists it’s “better than the real thing.”

TikTok Hype and Real-World Praise

In one viral clip, she responds to critics with on-screen text:

“Are you gonna keep going on and on about your Temu Range Rover being better than the real thing?”
Her answer:
“OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER 😛.”

She’s not alone. Commenters, including some Range Rover owners, backed her up:

  • “From someone with an Evoque, I might swap mine for one. It looks unreal 😍.”
  • “As a previous Range Rover owner, you came out on top. Mine had nothing but problems.”

Across three videos, her Jaecoo content has drawn over 765,000 views — suggesting that buyers are intrigued by the idea of a Range Rover lookalike at half the cost.

What Is the Jaecoo 7?

  • Built by Chery International, China’s fourth-largest automaker.
  • Sold under Omoda, Chery’s SUV-focused sub-brand.
  • Starting price: €37,900 ($44,160) with AWD.
  • For comparison: a Range Rover Evoque starts at £44,380 ($59,558).

Styling cues — boxy silhouette, oversized grille, and refined interior — clearly nod to Land Rover. Inside, it offers:

  • A large central touchscreen
  • Voice-activated panoramic sunroof
  • Cooled center console

While one TikTok commenter suggested Chery owns part of Jaguar Land Rover, that’s not accurate. In reality, Chery and JLR run a 50:50 joint venture in China for building cars under license.

Comfort vs. Performance

Pros

  • Plush ride quality
  • Strong tech features
  • Seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty

Cons

  • Lackluster performance: Autotrader UK rated it 2/5 for driving dynamics
  • Sluggish throttle response in both petrol and hybrid versions
  • Engines aren’t especially quiet

As Autotrader summed it up: “You’re getting what you pay for.”

For @bec.tttoktok, though, comfort wins:

“I’m so used to driving cars that are all about performance. This is a very comfortable car.”

The Catch: Not for U.S. Buyers

For now, the Jaecoo 7 isn’t sold in the U.S. But in Europe and select international markets, it’s marketed as a budget-friendly alternative to luxury SUVs. With Chinese EV and hybrid brands surging globally, more “affordable luxury” cars like the J7 are likely to follow.
