Apple to Ramp Up AI Investments as Siri Revamp Slips to 2026

Tim Cook says Apple is all-in on AI, with growing CapEx, team shifts, and M&A activity as it works to embed intelligence across its devices and ecosystem.

AI Moves to the Center of Apple’s Strategy

After years of lagging behind in the AI arms race, Apple is signaling a decisive shift. On its Q3 2025 earnings call, CEO Tim Cook confirmed the company is “significantly growing [its] investments” in AI, both in talent and capital.

“We see AI as one of the most profound technologies of our lifetime… and we’re putting all of our energy behind it,” Cook told investors.

  • Apple is reallocating staff across the company to support AI projects.
  • More than 20 Apple Intelligence features have already shipped.
  • New tools — including live translation and an AI workout coach — are expected later this year.
  • A revamped Siri is still in the works, but has been delayed to 2026.

Quiet but Steady Acquisition Activity

Apple is also showing a new willingness to accelerate AI progress through M&A:

  • Cook confirmed that Apple is acquiring companies at the rate of “one every several weeks.”
  • The company has already made seven acquisitions in 2025, though none were “huge” in dollar terms.
  • The purchases appear targeted at AI infrastructure and capabilities rather than headline-grabbing deals.

A Hybrid CapEx Model for AI Growth

Despite its increased AI focus, Apple noted that capital expenditures (CapEx) will grow modestly, not exponentially.

  • That’s because Apple continues to use a hybrid infrastructure model, relying on third-party investments in cloud and compute, rather than building everything in-house.
  • Nonetheless, year-to-date CapEx is up, driven by AI initiatives.

Defending Its Patient Approach

While competitors like OpenAI, Google, and Meta have raced to showcase aggressive AI rollouts, Apple has faced criticism for being too slow — especially with Siri’s limitations.

  • The company was accused of overpromising at recent demos, particularly around next-gen Siri features.
  • Cook pushed back against the criticism, saying Apple’s strategy is deliberate: “Launching the wrong features just to be first would be a mistake.”

Apple vs. Meta: Differing Visions for AI’s Future

The call also addressed how AI hardware could shape the future.

  • Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently argued that AI glasses could be the dominant form factor going forward.
  • Cook disagreed, emphasizing the iPhone’s ongoing centrality: “It’s difficult to see a world where iPhone’s not living in it… [AI] devices are likely to be complementary, not substitutions.”

This suggests Apple is likely to evolve its existing product line, rather than pivoting toward wholly new hardware — at least for now.

Apple Intelligence: What’s Here and What’s Coming

So far, Apple says it has launched over 20 AI-powered tools, with more arriving in late 2025.

Available now:

  • Visual intelligence features
  • Writing assistance
  • Cleanup tools

Coming soon:

  • Live translation
  • AI workout companion
  • Personalized Siri improvements (delayed to 2026)

Despite delays, Cook said the company is “making good progress” on the Siri overhaul.

A Strong Quarter, with AI on the Rise

Alongside its AI announcements, Apple also delivered:

  • Better-than-expected iPhone sales
  • Record revenue for Q3
  • A stock pop in after-hours trading

The financial performance gives Apple breathing room to invest aggressively in AI — and signals that Wall Street is ready to reward even measured steps forward.
