Intel First to Embrace Samsung’s Game-Changing Laptop Memory

Intel’s 18A-based laptop chips will debut support for Samsung’s innovative LPCAMM memory, offering ultra-fast, upgradeable RAM in a compact form

Intel Unveils Panther Lake Chips with Support for LPCAMM

Intel has announced its Panther Lake laptop processor lineup—its first to be built on the cutting-edge 18A process—and with it comes another industry first: support for Samsung’s LPCAMM DRAM.

This positions Intel at the forefront of the next wave of AI-optimized, energy-efficient, and upgradable laptops, with Samsung playing a key role in advancing memory standards for this new generation.

What Is LPCAMM and Why It Matters

LPCAMM (Low Power Compression Attached Memory Module) is a new RAM form factor designed to replace traditional SO-DIMM and LPDDR modules in laptops. It was introduced at CES 2025, with major contributions from Samsung and Micron, building on Dell’s original CAMM concept.

Key advantages of LPCAMM:

  • Up to 9,600 MT/s speeds—faster than LPDDR5X
  • Compact footprint, making it ideal for ultra-thin laptops
  • User-replaceable and upgradable, unlike most soldered LPDDR
  • Lower power draw and higher thermal efficiency

LPCAMM is expected to revolutionize laptop RAM design by blending performance, efficiency, and flexibility in a single, scalable format.

Panther Lake: Intel’s Most Advanced Laptop Chips Yet

Intel’s Panther Lake processors bring a host of improvements across performance, graphics, AI, and connectivity:

  • Manufactured on Intel’s 18A node, the company’s most advanced yet
  • New CPU core combo: Cougar Cove (performance) and Darkmont (efficiency)
  • Integrated Intel Arc GPU with Xe3 architecture
  • NPU5 engine capable of up to 50 TOPS for on-device AI tasks
  • Support for DDR5 SO-DIMM, LPDDR5X, and now Samsung’s LPCAMM

Additional features include:

  • Thunderbolt 4 (40 Gbps)
  • Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0
  • Auracast-ready LE Audio
  • Up to 12 lanes of PCIe Gen 5 for next-gen SSDs and GPUs

These chips are set to launch at CES 2026, with laptops expected to arrive in early 2026.

Samsung’s Role and Future Galaxy Book Integration

Given Samsung’s leading role in LPCAMM development, it’s no surprise that its next-generation Galaxy Book laptops are likely to be among the first adopters of this memory standard.

Expected models:

  • Galaxy Book 6
  • Galaxy Book 6 Pro
  • Galaxy Book 6 Ultra

These devices may also feature:

  • Intel Panther Lake processors
  • A centered trackpad design
  • No dedicated number pad, maximizing typing comfort and symmetry

This pairing could make the Galaxy Book 6 lineup a major leap forward in performance, AI capability, and upgradability.
