NBA’s Russell Westbrook Backs AI Startup to Ease End-of-Life Planning

Eazewell aims to ease grief and reduce burdens with an AI-driven platform helping families navigate death’s logistics

From Personal Loss to Purpose-Driven Tech

Donnell Beverly Jr. turned grief into innovation after losing both of his parents in quick succession. The experience opened his eyes to the overwhelming administrative burden families face after a loved one passes.

  • Beverly’s long-time friend, NBA legend Russell Westbrook, immediately backed the idea.
  • Joined by fellow NBA All-Star Kemba Walker, the trio co-founded Eazewell in 2024.

“We really took personal pain and then created a platform to help people,” said Beverly Jr.

What Eazewell Does

Eazewell is an AI-powered end-of-life planning platform designed to help families automate and manage post-death logistics—from funeral arrangements to canceling subscriptions.

  • The platform offers 24/7 virtual assistance for a range of tasks, including:
    • Finding and booking funeral homes
    • Coordinating hospice and insurance services
    • Canceling financial accounts and utilities
  • Eazewell is free to use, with optional premium features, supported by partnerships with:
    • Hospice care providers
    • Funeral homes
    • Life insurance companies

“We’re entering a space where [AI is] impacting our lives after death,” said Beverly Jr.

Fast Growth and Real-World Impact

Though launched only this year, Eazewell has already helped over 100,000 families navigate loss with greater ease.

  • The company is now rolling out an enterprise version of its platform:
    • Tailored for hospice providers, senior living facilities, and insurance companies
    • Allows these partners to integrate Eazewell’s automation into their own systems

Tackling the New Frontier: Digital Legacies

As our lives become increasingly digital, Eazewell is preparing to help families manage the digital assets of deceased loved ones.

  • The average person has 70–100 active digital accounts, from social media to streaming services.
  • These digital estates pose new legal and emotional challenges that families often aren’t prepared to handle.
  • Eazewell aims to build tools for managing and transferring digital ownership, making it a next-generation death tech solution.

“We see a grand opportunity to not only help people but just make it a lot more seamless,” said Beverly Jr.

Westbrook’s Role: Purpose Over Profit

For Russell Westbrook, Eazewell is more than a business venture—it’s a chance to impact underserved communities and bring attention to an issue many shy away from.

  • Westbrook uses his platform to build trust, open doors, and amplify awareness.
  • He emphasizes the importance of being present and intentional, even if he’s not “super technical.”

“This isn’t about me. It’s about families and helping them through a loss,” Westbrook said.

A Unique Approach in an Untapped Space

While the death care industry is fragmented and slow to modernize, Eazewell is filling a real gap by combining AI, automation, and human empathy.

  • Unlike legacy platforms that rely on manual processes, Eazewell is:
    • Always on
    • Accessible from anywhere
    • Designed with underserved users in mind

As Beverly Jr. puts it, “This is a new realm—and we’re just getting started.”
