Swiggy Instamart Bags Can Be Returned

Swiggy is encouraging customers to return bags that they get their groceries delivered in from Instamart.

Environmental Initiative

Instamart is Swiggy’s 10-minute grocery delivery service which packs the orders in free, reusable bags.

The company’s mission is to help customers reuse and reduce the use of excess bags to help create a sustainable future.

The company said in a blog post that every returned bag will turn into extra earnings for delivery executives.

“Tipping” Delivery Executives

It will also incentivise the delivery executives who bring the bags by rewarding them with extra earnings.

Returning the bags is a way customers can tip the drivers for their services.

Findings During Pilot Run

Real life examples during the pilot run:

Hanumanthappa T, a Bangalore delivery executive who collected and returned bags to the hub, made an extra Rs 1,250 last month.

Vikram, an Instamart customer from Gurugram, holds the record for returning the most bags-300.

2 Million Bag Target

The program is live across 19 cities currently.

A month has gone by and 3 lakh cloth bags have been reused.

Swiggy aims to take this to 20 lakh bags per month by the end of the year.

How It Works

When a customer returns extra bags by handing it over, the delivery executive will bring it to the Instamart store the next time they pick up an order.

Following quality inspection, the bags will be sanitized, refurbished, and then actively used for future orders.

Customer Responsibilities

The customer should make sure the bags they are returning are clean and intact so that they can be used again.

The company has also requested that customers explain the initiative to delivery executives who may be unaware, and then return the bags.
