Tata Sons’ Chairman N Chandrasekaran appointed a new Air India chief

After Turkey’s Ilker Ayci declined offer to become the chief executive of Air India, Tata Sons have now announced N Chandrasekarana new Chairman.

Natrajan Chandrasekarana, chairman of Tata Sons, has been named the new chief of Air India. In February, Tata’s Air India announced that Turkish businessman Ilker Ayci had declined the position.

Tata Group had earlier appointed Turkish Airlines’ former CEO Ilker Ayci as chief executive of recently acquired Air India, but the announcement met with a lot of opposition in India and was scrutinized later by the government.

Tata Sons, the holding company and promoter of more than 100 Tata operating companies, is currently headed by N Chandrasekaran. By putting in a winning bid, he played a key role in the acquisition of Air India from the Government of India.

On January 27, Air India was handed over to Tata Group, completing a full circle as the airline returned to the Tata family after 69 years. Air India was sold to Talace Pvt Ltd, a member of the Tata Group, in a competitive bidding process.
