GRSE Secures ₹25,000 Cr Order for Cutting-Edge Naval Warships

GRSE Emerges as Lead Builder for Indian Navy’s Next-Gen Corvette Fleet

L1 bid win for ₹25,000 crore project marks major leap in India’s naval self-reliance

Strategic Breakthrough for GRSE in Defence Shipbuilding

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) has secured the L1 (lowest bidder) status for the Indian Navy’s prestigious Next Generation Corvettes (NGC) project, signaling a major advancement in its defence portfolio.

  • The milestone was confirmed via a regulatory disclosure to NSE and BSE on May 22, 2025, a day after the Ministry of Defence’s Commercial Negotiation Committee (CNC) concluded its evaluation.
  • The contract is expected to be worth over ₹25,000 crore, making it one of the most significant recent deals in Indian naval shipbuilding.

Five Warships to Be Built by GRSE

Out of the eight corvettes planned under the NGC initiative, GRSE will construct five, marking a substantial share of the order.

  • This assignment reinforces GRSE’s standing as a top-tier public sector shipyard, with extensive experience in combat-ready naval vessels.
  • The shipyard has previously delivered over 100 warships to various branches of India’s maritime forces, including the Navy and Coast Guard.

Next-Gen Corvettes: Powering the Navy’s Future

The Next Generation Corvettes are envisioned as multi-mission stealth platforms, equipped with cutting-edge technology, including:

  • Advanced sensors and weapon systems
  • Enhanced survivability features
  • Reduced radar signature designs for stealth operations
These ships will play a crucial role in boosting the Indian Navy’s coastal and blue-water capabilities, especially in contested maritime zones.

A Boost for Aatmanirbhar Bharat in Naval Sector

This win aligns with the national goal of defence self-reliance under Aatmanirbhar Bharat, reflecting the growing capacity of Indian firms to design and build complex warships independently.

  • GRSE’s involvement underscores the Make in India vision for the defence sector and highlights the increasing trust in homegrown engineering expertise.

Company Leadership Welcomes the Milestone

Sandeep Mahapatra, GRSE’s Company Secretary and Compliance Officer, emphasized the achievement as a hallmark of innovation and precision.

  • “This achievement is a testament to GRSE’s commitment to innovation and excellence in shipbuilding,” he stated in the official filing.
  • GRSE now looks forward to executing the project with technical rigor and delivery discipline.
