District 2020 is now Expo City Dubai, to open in October 2022

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai on Monday announced plans for the Expo City Dubai.

The Dubai Expo 2020 exhibition site, which ended in March 2020, will be turned into a lifelong city.

Though earlier it was decided that the legacy of the greatest show on earth will live on as District 2020.

At a press conference held Monday at the Dubai Exhibition Center, it was announced that District 2020 would be renamed Expo City Dubai.

The Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed revealed his plans for the city in a series of tweets.

He tweeted, “After the historical success of Expo 2020 Dubai, visited by more than 24 million visitors & left a mark in the 170-year history of World Expositions. Today we announce transformation of the exhibition site into Expo City Dubai, a new city that represents the ambitions of Dubai.”
Speaking of the city, he tweeted “Expo City Dubai will be an environmentally-friendly city that caters to families and future generations.”

“A city connected to a port and two airports, and also to beautiful memories in the hearts and minds of millions of people.”

The Expo city Dubai will be a clean, green, and technology-based city of the future that will be built around sustainability.

The city will have diverse attractions including the UAE Pavilion, Woman’s Pavilion, Saudi Arabia Pavilion, Vision Pavilion, Terra – The Sustainability Pavilion, and Alif – the Mobility Pavilion.
The Dubai Expo City is set to open its door in October.
