The music streaming giant upgrades its live events features, making it easier for users to discover concerts, track venues, and buy tickets.
A New Way to Stay in the Loop with Live Music
Spotify is rolling out a new feature that lets users follow venues—not just artists—so they can stay updated on upcoming concerts and event details at specific locations.
- Followed venues are saved in your Library, just like playlists or podcasts.
- Each venue page displays an event calendar, concert details, and new announcements.
- You can filter shows by genre, helping fans find the right gigs faster.
This move expands Spotify’s strategy around live event discovery, offering users a more dynamic and localized experience.
Real-Time Updates and Daily Feeds
Alongside venue-following, Spotify is also enhancing its live event feed.
- The feed will now update daily, instead of weekly, keeping users in sync with the latest show announcements and schedule changes.
- As before, you can tap any concert listing to book tickets via third-party ticketing partners like Live Nation and Ticketmaster.
Spotify previously experimented with selling tickets directly in 2022 but has since stuck with its model of linking out to ticketing services rather than competing with them.
Part of a Bigger Push Into Concert Discovery
This isn’t Spotify’s first step into the live music space.
- Earlier this year, it launched “Concerts Near You,” a playlist updated weekly with songs from artists performing in your area, including show dates and ticket links.
- The new venue-following feature builds on that idea, giving fans another way to discover events—not just through artists, but through local venues they care about.
Facing Competition in the Live Events Space
Spotify isn’t the only platform eyeing live music discovery.
- SoundCloud, for instance, partnered with Ticketmaster and Live Nation in February to allow artists to list upcoming concerts directly on their pages.
- The industry trend is clear: music platforms want to bridge the gap between streaming and attending.
For Spotify, these features may also help boost engagement, keeping users on-platform longer as they plan nights out—and potentially helping artists increase ticket sales.
