Oura has launched the Oura Ring 5, introducing a slimmer design, lighter build and improved battery life as competition intensifies in the smart ring market.
The company says the new device is the world’s smallest smart ring and is designed to resemble traditional jewelry more closely.
Prices start at $399.
Smaller and lighter
Compared with the Oura Ring 4, the new model is significantly more compact.
Dimensions
| Feature | Oura Ring 5 | Oura Ring 4 |
|---|---|---|
| Width | 6.09 mm | 7.90 mm |
| Thickness | 2.28 mm | 2.88 mm |
| Weight | 2 g–2.69 g | 3.3 g–5.2 g |
According to Oura, the Ring 5 is about 40 percent smaller than its predecessor.
The redesign was driven by customer demand for a more discreet wearable.
Battery improvements
Battery life has also been extended.
- Ring 5: Six to nine days
- Ring 4: Five to eight days
During testing by TechCrunch, the device retained about 25 percent battery after five days of continuous use.
Fewer sizes available
The Ring 5 is available in sizes 6 to 13.
By comparison, the Ring 4 was offered in sizes 4 to 15.
Oura said manufacturing constraints associated with the smaller form factor led the company to focus on the most popular sizes.
Six finishes
The Ring 5 is offered in:
- Silver
- Brushed Silver
- Black
- Stealth
- Gold
- Deep Rose
The Gold finish has been redesigned to provide a more natural gold tone, while Deep Rose has a copper-like appearance.
Pricing
- Standard finishes: $399
- Gold, Stealth and Deep Rose finishes: $499
Improved durability
Oura said the Ring 5 uses a new physical vapor deposition (PVD) coating process intended to improve scratch resistance and help maintain its appearance over time.
New software features coming
The Ring 5 is launching alongside software features that will also be available on the Oura Ring Gen3 and later devices.
Upcoming additions include:
- Blood Pressure Signals
- Nighttime Breathing
These features are expected to roll out later this month.
Competition in the market
The new device arrives as Oura faces increasing competition from companies such as:
- RingConn
- Ultrahuman
Both competitors offer subscription-free smart rings and have introduced lighter products than the Ring 4.
