Samsung Smartwatches Will Support Live Updates with One UI 9 Watch

Galaxy Watch to Receive Google’s Live Updates Feature in 2026

Samsung smartwatches will support real-time app updates via Now Bar and One UI 8 Watch

Samsung Galaxy Watch users can look forward to a major usability upgrade in late 2026 with the arrival of Live Updates, a feature announced by Google at I/O 2025. This real-time notification system will transform how information is delivered to your wrist by allowing at-a-glance updates from supported apps.

What is Live Updates?

Live Updates is a Google-driven feature designed to deliver real-time information—such as flight status, delivery tracking, sports scores, or timers—without needing to open an app. It is already set to debut on phones and tablets with Android 16, but smartwatches, including Galaxy models, will receive it at a later stage.

Integration with One UI Watch and the Now Bar

Samsung will bring Live Updates to Galaxy Watches through the Now Bar, a feature already present on Galaxy smartphones. This integration will roll out as part of the One UI 8 Watch update launching later in 2025.

  • Initially, the Now Bar on Galaxy Watches will support:
    • Samsung’s native apps
    • A few Google apps, like Calendar or Messages
  • Expanded support for third-party apps is expected in a future update, likely One UI 8.5 Watch or One UI 9 Watch, scheduled for late 2026

What to expect with full Live Updates support

Once fully rolled out, Live Updates will make Galaxy Watches more dynamic and context-aware by:

  • Showing live data from compatible apps directly on the watch face
  • Reducing reliance on notifications and app launches
  • Supporting new app categories as Google broadens developer access

This functionality aims to deliver a fluid, glanceable experience similar to what’s already available on smartphones through the Android 16 Now Bar.

Future-ready Galaxy Watch features

Samsung is steadily evolving its smartwatch platform with features like Wear OS 6, One UI 8 Watch, and hardware refinements seen in the Watch8 series. The addition of Live Updates will further boost the watch’s role as an information hub, improving both productivity and real-time awareness.
