Amazon Luna’s New GameNight Lets You Play with Just a Phone

The reimagined Luna experience adds beginner-friendly party games — including a Snoop Dogg-led courtroom comedy — as Amazon positions Luna as a go-to for social gaming

A New Direction for Amazon Luna

Amazon Luna is relaunching with a fresh focus: easy, accessible multiplayer gaming, now included at no extra cost for Prime members. The update introduces GameNight, a curated collection of over 25 party-friendly games that can be played using just your phone, no console or controller required.

“Anyone with a smartphone can dive right in and have a blast,” said Jeff Gattis, GM of Amazon Luna.

Meet GameNight: Social Gaming, Simplified

GameNight is Amazon’s answer to the game night revival. Designed for the living room, the collection offers local multiplayer experiences that emphasize fun over skill, making it perfect for players of all ages and experience levels.

Key titles include:

  • “Courtroom Chaos: Starring Snoop Dogg” – A Luna exclusive where Snoop voices an improv-style judge in a comedic courtroom showdown
  • “Angry Birds Flock Party”
  • “The Jackbox Party Pack 9”
  • “Draw & Guess”, “Exploding Kittens 2”, “Clue”, and “Tetris Effect: Connected”

The goal? Make Luna the go-to platform for family gatherings, game nights, and casual hangouts — no gaming expertise required.

Smartphone as Controller: No Setup Needed

A standout feature of the new Luna experience is its phone-as-controller support. Anyone can:

  • Scan a QR code
  • Join a GameNight session
  • Start playing instantly — no downloads or accounts needed

This low-friction model reduces entry barriers and makes it easier to engage non-gamers, a key demographic for Amazon’s broader entertainment strategy.

Serious Games Still Welcome

While GameNight is the headline update, Amazon Luna still caters to more traditional gamers:

  • Premium games like “Hogwarts Legacy”, “Kingdom Come: Deliverance II”, and “TopSpin 2K25” remain available
  • These require a Luna controller or mouse and keyboard

For expanded access, Luna Premium (formerly Luna+) is available at $9.99/month, featuring AAA titles such as:

  • “EA SPORTS FC 25”
  • “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor”
  • “Batman: Arkham Knight”

The Bigger Picture: Luna as a Social Gaming Platform

Amazon’s strategy is clear: position Luna as a casual-friendly, plug-and-play platform for Prime members and their households.

With rivals like Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce NOW targeting core and competitive gamers, Amazon is carving out a niche where simplicity, accessibility, and fun are the main selling points.

  • No console needed
  • Phone-based play lowers hardware barriers
  • AI-driven content like “Courtroom Chaos” shows Amazon’s unique IP and tech blend
