After saving the moon of Pandora, what else is left but to have a few kids and settle down? James Cameron’s Avatar 2 hopes to answer that’s at least one question. In a recent interview with producer Jon Landau (Titanic, Avatar), Empire reported new details on former human Jake and Navi Neytiri’s new mixed-species family.
Neteyam (Jamie Flatters), Tuktirey (Trinity Bliss), and Lo’ak (Britain Dalton) make up the new family. Additionally, the couple adopted a human son named Miles Sorocco, AKA “Spider,” played by Jack Champion. Below is an official teaser image of Spider.

This mixed-species dynamic is said to play a significant role in Avatar 2’s family conflict.
“Jake took him in, but Neytiri always saw him as someone who destroyed her home and killed her father,” Landau told Empire. “So you have these dynamics at play.”
Similarly, Landau compared the family makeup to real-life mixed-race families learning how to deal with racial issues in society.
When you look at what Jim writes in his movies, you can see that there are universal themes beyond the genre of any one film,” Landau said. “This time, we’re taking Jake and Neytiri and focusing on the universal theme of all: family. Jake comes from the human world, while Neytiri comes from the Navi world. They’re like a modern mixed-race couple raising kids who may feel like they don’t belong anywhere.”
After 13 years of production and multiple delays, Avatar 2 will be released on December 16, 2022. The official Avatar Twitter account and Entertainment Weekly posted four new photos from the film’s set last week, one of which showed Jack Champion partially submerged in the water taking directions from Cameron.
In September, Avatar 2 and 3 wrapped up filming. Avatar 3 will be released on December 20, 2024, Avatar 4 in December 2026, and Avatar 5 in December 2028. Ubisoft plans to release Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora in 2022, a first-person open-world action-adventure game adapted from the movie.
