EA FC 26 Gets Shown the Red Card by Nintendo Switch 2 Fans
30 FPS cap and no crossplay spark backlash ahead of launch.
A Beta That Missed the Goal
The EA FC 26 closed beta has kicked off across all platforms, giving select players an early look at the game ahead of release. But for Nintendo Switch 2 owners, the excitement quickly turned into frustration after discovering the game is locked at 30 FPS—in both handheld and docked modes.
The disappointment is especially sharp because this is the Switch 2’s first EA FC release. Fans expected a leap to 60 FPS gameplay, especially after the Frostbite Engine arrived on the Switch with FC 24, replacing years of “Legacy Edition” ports. Yet, despite the hardware upgrade, the framerate cap remains.
Fans Call for a Boycott
The issue came to light on the r/FIFAswitch subreddit, where players voiced their anger. One top comment summed up the mood:
“30fps handheld would be bad enough, but 30fps docked is a joke.”
Others went further, calling for a boycott until EA optimizes the game for the new hardware. Comparisons to titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Street Fighter 6, and Mario Kart World—all running at higher framerates on Switch 2—only deepened the frustration.
Crossplay Woes Continue
Adding to the criticism, EA FC 26 still lacks crossplay on Switch. This means:
- Longer matchmaking times for online matches
- A smaller FUT Transfer Market, making the game’s core Ultimate Team mode less engaging
These limitations have plagued Switch players for years, but with the Switch 2’s upgraded specs, many expected them to finally be addressed.
A Missed Next-Gen Opportunity
With better hardware, fans hoped FC 26 would deliver a truly next-gen football experience on Switch 2. Instead, the beta suggests a repeat of old frustrations—something the community is no longer willing to overlook. Unless EA changes course before launch, this could be the most contentious Switch release in the series yet.
