Mortal Shell 2 officially opened the Summer Game Fest 2025, marking the return of the indie Soulslike that made waves for its unique mechanics and stripped-down storytelling. Developed by Cold Symmetry and published by PlayStack, the sequel is set to release in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
According to the developers, Mortal Shell 2 aims to “significantly expand on the original,” with:
- Unrestricted, adrenaline-charged combat
- Deeper weapon design and extensive upgrade paths
- A new emphasis on freeform exploration
Building on a Unique Legacy
The core mechanic from the first game—possessing fallen warriors (Shells) to adopt new combat styles and abilities—returns, suggesting that the sequel will continue to lean into its distinctive gameplay loop.
