BHIM 3.0: A Step Towards Digital Inclusion

BHIM 3.0 Launched: What’s New for Users

BHIM 3.0 aims to enhance financial inclusion and simplify digital payments across India, making transactions more seamless and accessible.

NPCI BHIM Services (NBSL), a subsidiary of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), has introduced Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM 3.0), packed with new features to improve digital payments for users, merchants, and banks.

As the third significant upgrade since its debut in 2016, BHIM 3.0 prioritizes user experience, accessibility, and financial tools to ensure smoother transactions.

Additionally, the app now supports over 15 Indian languages, making digital payments more inclusive, according to NPCI’s statement.

New Features for Users

Split Expenses

Users can now divide bills with friends and family, making it easier to handle shared costs such as rent, restaurant bills, or group purchases.

  • This feature ensures instant settlements, eliminating the need for manual calculations and follow-ups.

Family Mode

Families can now manage expenses together, allowing users to onboard family members and assign payments efficiently.

  • This feature offers expense tracking and enables shared financial management, helping families stay organized.

Spends Analytics

A new dashboard provides an in-depth monthly breakdown of expenses, automatically categorizing them for better budgeting.

  • This helps users track their spending habits and make informed financial decisions.

Action Needed Alerts

The app now sends reminders about pending payments, UPI Lite activation, and low balance alerts to help users stay on top of their financial tasks.

  • This ensures timely bill payments and prevents missed transactions.

Improved Experience for Merchants

Merchants can now accept payments directly within the app, simplifying online transactions and reducing reliance on third-party platforms.

  • Customers can make seamless payments without being redirected, enhancing the checkout experience.

“With BHIM 3.0, we are advancing toward a more inclusive digital economy,” said Ajay Kumar Choudhary, Non-Executive Chairman, NPCI.

Lalitha Nataraj, CEO of NBSL, highlighted that this update is “built for Bharat,” ensuring security, convenience, and financial empowerment.

Rollout Timeline

BHIM 3.0 will be rolled out in phases, with full availability expected by April 2025.
