Social Security SSI: April 2025 Payment Details and Eligibility Criteria

Social Security SSI Payment on April 1: Eligibility and Key Details

Approximately 7.4 million Americans rely on Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a program that provides financial aid to individuals aged 65 or older, blind, or disabled with limited income.

SSI Payment Schedule for April 2025

SSI payments will be distributed on April 1, 2025, following two payments in February. These payments are typically issued on the first of each month, except when that date falls on a weekend or holiday. Since April 1 falls on a Tuesday, payments will be sent as scheduled. However, beneficiaries should prepare for complex payment adjustments in May.

Who is Eligible for SSI Payments?

SSI benefits are available to individuals who meet specific criteria:

  • Must be 65 years or older, blind, or disabled.
  • Must have limited income and limited financial resources.
  • Children with disabilities may also qualify for SSI payments.
  • To be eligible, an adult’s monthly income must not exceed $2,019.

SSI Payment Schedule

The payment schedule for 2025 follows the standard format:

  • April 1, 2025 – April payment
  • May 1, 2025 – May payment
  • May 30, 2025 – June payment
  • July 1, 2025 – July payment
  • August 1, 2025 – August payment
  • August 29, 2025 – September payment
  • October 1, 2025 – October payment
  • October 31, 2025 – November payment
  • December 1, 2025 – December payment
  • December 31, 2025 – January 2026 payment

Payment Complexities in May and June

In May 2025, SSI beneficiaries will receive two payments: one for May and another for June. Since June 1 falls on a weekend, the June payment will be issued early, resulting in no SSI payment in June.

This pattern will also occur in August and October, where recipients will receive two payments but none in September and November.

How to Apply for SSI

Individuals meeting the age, disability, and income requirements can apply through multiple channels:

  • Online via the Social Security Administration (SSA) website.
  • In person at a local Social Security office.
  • By phone at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY: 1-800-325-0778), available weekdays from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM (local time).

Starting March 31, 2025, SSA is implementing enhanced identity verification procedures, including online identity proofing. Setting up an online SSA account can help applicants streamline the process and avoid delays.

For those eligible, the April SSI payment will arrive as scheduled, but recipients should stay informed about upcoming changes in the payment cycle.
