Assam Orunodoi Scheme or Arunodoi has been launched as the biggest direct benefit transfer scheme on 1 December 2020. It is a new scheme to empower women and provide financial assistance to economically vulnerable families. In this Orunodoi Scheme, the Assam govt. is providing Rs. 830 per month to eligible 17 Lakh state resident families to buy essential food items. The number of families covered under Orunodoi scheme would be subsequently increased to 24 lakh after election process is completed in Bodoland. At the rate of Rs. 830 per month, the beneficiaries of the Arunodoi scheme will receive a total benefit of Rs. 10,000 per year for nutritional and medicinal support.

For enrollment for financial assistance in Assam Orunodoi Scheme, applicants will be enter their address details. Objective of Assam Orunodoi Scheme 2020

The main objective of the Assam Orunodoi scheme is to financially help the deprived / poor families in the state and improvise their life through a substantial income support. The state government has earmarked a sum of Rs. 280 crore for the new scheme. The Arunodoi Scheme envisages poverty eradication and socio-economic inclusion of financial vulnerable families of the state. It is done through sustainable financial aid by DBT, leveraging cash transfer on a monthly basis.

Assam Orunodoi Scheme will ensure that underprivileged families are assured of minimum monthly cash flow. The other objective is to minimize multiplicity of schemes and consolidate them through DBT platform in aid of better delivery and outcomes. The scheme has been formally announced by the state government, however the launch of the scheme will happen only on 2nd October 2020.

Eligibility Criteria for Assam Orunodoi Scheme 2020

In order to take the benefits of Arunodoi scheme, the applicants must fulfill the following basic eligibility criteria for the Orunodoi Scheme in Assam:-

• Applicant must be a permanent resident of Assam and presently residing in the state.
• Combined annual household income of the applicant should not exceed Rs. 2 Lakh per year.
• The beneficiary (nominated female member) should have a bank account wherein the name in bank account should match the scheme records.
• In case the beneficiary does not possess a bank account, then a bank account would be required to be opened prior to the date of approval of Orunodoi Scheme Application.

It is important to note that priority will be given to those households which has widows, divorced / unmarried / separated females and any specially abled member of the household. Moreover, priority will be given to those poorer families on the basis whether they are covered under NFSA or not.

Beneficiaries of Assam Orunodoi Scheme

As per the Assam government, women will be the beneficiaries of the scheme who will receive the financial benefit of Rs. 830 per month under the scheme. Since, women are the primary caretakers of the family, they have been chosen to be the scheme beneficiaries.

Selection of Beneficiaries for Arunodoi Scheme Assistance

Selection of beneficiaries under the Orunodoi scheme has been started from 17th August 2020. The amount will be transferred to the beneficiaries bank accounts on the 1st of every month. The transfer of funds will be done through the Direct Benefit Transfer mode to the bank accounts of nominee women beneficiary of the family.

The District Level Monitoring Committee may devise modalities for preparing the list of eligible beneficiaries strictly as per the guidelines. The preliminary selection of the beneficiaries will be done at the level of Gaon Panchayat / Village Council Development Committee / Urban Local Bodies based on eligibility criteria as mentioned above.

CM Sonowal mentioned that based on the doctrine of Sabka Saath, Sabka vikash and Sabka Viswas, the present State government since the time of assuming power has been working for the socio-economic and academic development of all sections of the people. Assam government sincerely believes that every resident of the state should live with dignity and therefore the government has been launching several schemes.

Stating the Orunodoi scheme as an endeavour of the State government to lend prestige and dignity to the women of the state, Sonowal thanked Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his team in the Finance Department for conceiving a scheme through which the women folk would receive monthly financial assistance.

Health and Family Welfare, Finance etc. Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while speaking on the occasion said that though Orunodoi scheme, State government has cleared the decks for ensuring secured monthly income to the beneficiaries of 22 lakh families of the state. He said that under the scheme widow, unmarried women, divorcee, dibyang would get special preference. He said that by the scheme, an effort has been made to bring about overall empowerment of women in the state.

Sarma in his speech said that the present State government has provided free enrolment to seven lakh students along with launching scheme of Insurance Cover For Students and others for the development of academic atmosphere of the state.
